Sweet, sizzling and creative bloggers and an interview

I've had a great time this week participating in the Power of Tension blogfest. So many great entries. If you haven't checked them out yet you should, you're missing out! Thanks Cally and Rachel for hosting!

Some awesome people around the blogosphere have given me some awards (some from a shamefully long time ago) and I think I should probably get them on the blog! So here goes:

Barbara Kloss and Catherine Pawsey think the blog's sweet. Thanks guys! Barbara also gave me the Blog on Fire award (she's very generous). And Deirdra Coppel passed on the very pretty Creative Blog Award. Go check out their blogs, they're all awesome.

Instead of boring you all with more random facts about me (since I've already done that here, here and here) I thought I'd just give you seven random facts... about anything! Enjoy.

1. During the movie The Silence of the Lambs, Hannibal Lector never blinks while talking on screen.
2. A jiffy is an actual unit of time for 1/100th of a second. Thus the saying, I will be there in a jiffy.
3. Every 2 seconds, someone in the world needs a blood transfusion. (I hope you donate if you can!)
4. A person's sense of smell is better at night.
5. Taphephobia or Taphophobia - Fear of being buried alive or of cemeteries.
6. The term "OXYMORON" is itself an oxymoron because oxy means sharp and moron means dull.
7. You can marry a dead person in France.

I didn't check any of these, so they may only be 'facts' in the nonfactual sense of the word. But they're fun!

And now I get to pass the awards on. I have previously listed a few facts about myself here & here. My brain hurts trying to think about something else interesting about me. Ummm...

  ~  I have two brothers, one is thirteen years older than me, the other, also known as the 'little' brother, is 6 foot 4 inches.

  ~  I am an animal person in a big way. At one point when I was about twelve, we lived in what could only be called a menagerie. We had 22 guinea pigs, a duck, a rat, a horse, two cats and a dog.

  ~  I am related to Arthur Boyd, a famous Australian painter. Not sure what the terminology is but my granddad, John á Beckett Boyd (known as Pat) was Arthur's cousin. I never met granddad Pat, but my grandmother Anne (known as Annie - Grannie Annie when we were little) turned 91 this year.

Allow me to have a minor public freak-out... and an award

Some of you may know I recently decided to drastically change the course of my career. I resigned my job at a bank in New Zealand and applied for publishing and editing courses in Melbourne, Australia. I was lucky enough to get into the Graduate Diploma in Editing and Publishing at RMIT University in Melbourne, which I am very happy about.

Today is the first day of my course. Right now I feel like it's the first day of school and I'm feeling VERY nervous. I'm starting to second guess myself and wondering if I'm going to be good enough. The course is, after all, aimed at people already in the publishing industry and I have no relevant experience (other than a summer working in a book shop - which I loved).

Couple that with the fact that I went to eleven different schools, and I feel like somewhere along the way I missed a very important lesson on grammar (what the hell is a dangling modifier, anyway?) and you get a minor freak-out.

EEEP!

Ok... deep breath. I will be calm. I can teach myself grammar. I've learnt by myself before. Must control tummy swirling.

Aaand... moving along.

I have recently done a vlog for this award, telling seven things about myself. I'll add a few more:

1. I'm not familiar with the specifics of grammar, although I think I instinctively get it right some of the time (but not all).
2. I have bad circulation. My feet and hands always seem to be cold.
3. Even though I feel the cold badly, one of my favourite things to do is skiing on Mt Ruapehu in New Zealand. It's also one of my favourite places in the world.
4. I talk to my cat. She's silly.

Wow, I got an award!

Thanks heaps to Madeline at Capricious Existence for awarding me the Stylish Blogger Award and The Versatile Blogger Award, it made my day.

Now I wasn't entirely sure what getting these awards meant, and I tried searching on Google, but to no avail. And then I decided it doesn't really matter what they mean, it's just a good reason to pass on the love.

There are some rules for each award, and they are:

1. Link to the blogger who gave you the award.

2. Share 7 things about yourself.

3. Pass the award to 15 bloggers recently discovered.

4. Notify the recipients.

Maybe a bit cheeky of me, but I'm going to bend the rules just a tad, rather than doing fourteen things about me, I'm only going to do seven, and I'll match that with seven pass it forwards. Is that ok? I think that way I won't bore you, and I'll pass the awards to cool sights, instead of just searching for thirty (thirty!!) other blogs to send them to. We cool? We cool.

I decided to do rule two as a Vlog, just to mix things up a bit, and because I've never done one before and wanted to play. Please excuse all the Umms and Ahhhs and self conscious hair touching (funny that we can be self conscious in our own homes when there's no one around..)
